Company Name

Our parent company name is “Merck KGaA”.  In the U.S. and Canada, it must always be used with the geographical descriptor of the city and country where it is headquartered (i.e. Darmstadt, Germany).  Therefore, when we reference our parent company in the U.S. and Canada, in each and every instance, we use “Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany” and it is never used in close connection to any logo or design element.

It is written in plain, simply font, all words in Verdana (never in our typeface).  If it is written over two lines, those lines must be equal in length and aligned justified. The space between the two lines is half the height of the capital M in “Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany”. There is a simple rule to define the height of the company name: simply measure the page diagonally and divide the result by 34. The minimum size of this height is 6 mm.

Before publication of items using the parent company name (as shown here below) please ensure the necessary approval from Group Trademarks and Branding via

Writing our company name over two lines is not the only way of presenting our parent company name. It can be shown in one line as well — with all words written in the same font size. You may want to use this version in continuous text or headlines, where appropriate.
